The Ruck and the Maul gig

The first time Michael Television’s Interloper played live was at a 16th birthday party in Finchley. Playing alongside Crayfish (Felix’s other band at the time), they certainly brought the chaos. Or at least found it… Ten minutes into their set, the meticulously crafted backing track that Mikee had spent months recording, editing, and burning to CD, decided to skip. Perhaps the band’s aggressive on-stage antics were a little too energetic that evening. A quick shuffle of equipment later and everything was back on track.

It’s hard to say exactly what a roomful of teenagers in 2006 was looking for in a band, but they seemed to appreciate the anarchic noise and attitude that Interloper brought. There was a lot of jumping around, the oppressive smell of teen spirit, and a highly positive vibe. The band used this as a learning experience. Future gigs included a backing track on solid state media…

Rarity were headlining. You know, there was absolutely a spot for 4 young ladies playing pop-punk in the UK music scene, but proper serious jobs were calling for everybody.
