Description
Mikee
This track began as a mash up of breaks and samples from Money Love by Neneh Cherry (“Be quiet boy, do you wanna be sued?”) - Misc had mashed together some beats and cuts and then we got together and put some riffs and licks on it.
It’s impossible not to look back at this and hear a real banger in the mix here.
Misc
A cassette of Neneh Cherry’s Raw Like Sushi was a fundamental part of my musical awakening back in the ‘80s. Her follow-up Homebrew lost a bit of the debut’s edge, but I guess Medium-Rare Like Steak didn’t make for a catchy album title.
Money Love was a highlight and I couldn’t resist grabbing that perfectly isolated line to chop about. Mikee took the bait and turned it into a full-on anthem that explores the tension between hollow materialism and authentic human connection. The chorus twists the Rolling Stones’ adage into a typically cynical take on modern consumerism.
Lyrics
[Verse 1: Mikee]
Beat your feet to the mother fucking disco heat
Never before has your life been so complete
Cuz prostitution is so cheap
So come and take a walk down our street
[Interlude: Neneh]
Money & things
M-Money money & things
Money & things
M-Money money & things
[Verse 2: Mikee]
So I have spent all my time chasing the things you happen to offer me
Being so enthralled with you isn’t something that comes naturally
Can we go back to the way things used to be
All the things I want from you can’t be bought with paper money
[Chorus: Mikee]
You can’t always have the things that you want
But you should see the things that money can buy
You can’t always have the ones that you love, yeah
But you should see the things that money can, money can buy
[Interlude: Neneh]
Money & things
M-Money money & things
Money & things
M-Money money & things
[Chorus: Mikee]
You can’t always have the things that you want, yeah
But you should see the things that money can buy
You can’t always have the ones that you love, yeah
But you should see the things that money can buy
You can’t always have the things that you love, yeah
But you should see the things that money can buy
You can’t always have the ones that you love, yeah
But you should see the things that money can, money can buy
