n0thing

Why do we make zeros into heroes?

MTVI / Track

Description

We can’t particularly remember what was the catalyst of n0thing for a track, but the the first elements were two-fold, first, a classic West Coast bass line and instead of a typical hip-hop beat, cut up and layered, abrasive beats. The very sharp and rhythmic guitars were added.

There’s some great quiet / loud, slow / fast sections in this track and it was the first track that formed a kind of cohesive ‘Interloper’ here.

Included here is the original mix, which ‘in hindsight’ was a much better mix. Absolutely no idea why we went with the version we did in the end, as the original demo sounded much more rounded as a mix. I think we were trying to make a better production of the demo track and resolutely failed.

n0thing is one of those songs where Mikee sings in a ‘voice’ - which is a bit of a common theme in Interloper songs where we play roles in the tracks. ‘Nothing you ever do is good enough for me’ is more about how Mikee would view other people who he’d work hard to please, so the verses are all about someone very lovesick and anxious and the chorus is the resulting response to the sickly call. Like, yeah, cool story bro, but you’re still not going to be good enough no matter how much you agonise.

We think quite a lot about the themes of our songs, but we do like people to impart their own meanings to them to.

Lyrics

Mikee

My mind’s in overdrive and stuck in formaldehyde
This tried and tested advice is tired but it’s still all mine
This bottle, this gun, this rusty knife for a homemade suicide
My eyes are shut tight to thighs wide highs

Where do we go?
Where do we go from here?

Where do we go-ho?
Where do we go from here?
Where do we go-ho?

Stephen Hawking

In hindsight, I never should have fucked you baby
But I must say you have the sweetest taste

nothing you ever do is good enough for me

Mikee

In hindsight, I never should have fucked you baby
But I must say you have the sweetest taste

I’m drunk I’m a fool an emotional tool to your fine tuned machinery
The exception to the rule has been shut out without a key
These locks, these chains, untied mind games
My body creates its own disease

A tie is like a noose inverted though it is
It can still kill a man much quicker than a kiss
You touch my hips with bee-stung lips
We synchronise our fingertips
Heart’s methadone, dope stoned shapeshifts

Where do we go?
Where do we go from here?

Where do we go-ho?
Where do we go from here?

x16

nothing you ever do is good enough for me
